If you have allergy-like symptoms and you’re not sure why, there may be white mold growing in your home. Mold is a natural part of the environment. It reproduces through tiny spores and is usually harmless, but it can become a problem if it lands on a wet spot in your home and begins to grow. Some types of mold, especially black mold, are toxic and can cause health problems. Furthermore, mold eventually destroys the things it grows on, such as your home and furnishings. Even if you clean up the mold, you have to address the root cause of the mold growth so that it doesn’t return. To learn how to get rid of white mold, you need to control the moisture in your home.

Get Rid of Moisture

It’s impossible to get rid of all the mold spores floating around in your home, but getting rid of them all isn’t even necessary since they only grow when moisture is present. In damp areas of your home, use a dehumidifier to eliminate moisture. If you find a source of moisture, such as a leaky pipe or drain, be sure to fix it. Also, clean up any standing water or spills right away.

If there is carpeting in your home, consider replacing it with hard flooring. Carpeting soaks up dirt and moisture, so it’s a breeding ground for mold. If removing your carpeting is not an option, dust your carpets with baking soda on a regular basis. Let the baking soda sit for several hours before vacuuming it up.

Promptly Clean the Mold

Want to learn how to get rid of white mold naturally? There are many mold cleaners on the market today, but lots of them contain harsh chemicals, so try using vinegar instead. Simply pour distilled white vinegar into an empty spray bottle and spray it directly onto the white mold and let it sit for a few hours. The mold will eventually go away.

If the mold is especially tough to eliminate, create a paste with two parts baking soda and one part vinegar. Apply the paste to the mold, let it sit for a few hours, and then wipe it away. Other natural ingredients that are effective in eliminating mold include grapefruit seed extract and tea tree oil. Both substances should be diluted with water before you apply them to moldy surfaces.

Hire a Professional Cleaner

If you followed the instructions for how to get rid of white mold naturally but the mold keeps returning or you continue to suffer from allergic reactions, hire a professional cleaner to get rid of the mold. A professional cleaner will be able to detect mold in your home that you didn’t even realize was there, as well as get rid of mold in hard-to-reach areas. Professional cleaners would be able to get the job done far more quickly and efficiently since they know what to look for, where to look, and how to get rid of it.

We had a white mold problem in the basement garage. When the outside temperature fell below freezing, moisture would condense in the basement garage. The moisture became a breeding ground for white mold. I installed a small 20 watt extraction fan in the basement garage and now there is no moisture during the winter and there is no more white mold.
